Summer is in full swing and things have been heating up here in the Silver State. We have had our first of what is believed to be two special sessions (the second is due to start within days of this report) and we are reporting on the details of the first special session below, along with the new realities of union activism in the time of the pandemic or as we like to call it: “How to Become a Virtual Activist”.

AFSCME held a "coffee caucus" in Las Vegas at Dona Maria's Tamales Shop in Las Vegas on Friday February 22, the night before the Nevada Democratic Caucus.  Members of AFSCME  Local 4041, Retirees Sub-Chapter 153 and Retirees Chapter 4041 members Charlie Muller, Roger Bremner, Nick Frost, Patty Machal, Laura Leavitt and Steve Suwe, came together for the "pre-caucus" event.

At the Quartly Membership Meeting held November 21, the Chapter dedicated a Memorial Plaque in the name of long time member Frank Papaianni, who passed away earlier this year.  The plaque will be displayed in the Carson City office to honor those who have dedicated years of working to improve the rights, benefits and well being of Public Employees in Nevada. The inaugural class of inductees included. Jeanne Adams, Danny Coyle, Bob Gagnier and Roger Maillard.

The Board of Directors of AFSCME Retirees Chapter 4041 held a Quarterly Membership Meeting in Las Vegas on November 21, 2019. The meeting was held at the Nevada State AFL-CIO office and video conferenced to the Retirees office in Carson City. A luncheon catered by Olive Garden was held in Las Vegas while those attendees in Carson City enjoyed pizza.

On October 26, 2019, Nevada celebrated its 155th birthday, with among other events and activities, a parade held in its capitol, Carson City.  The AFSCME Retirees Chapter 4041 participated with a "float' ridden by president Charles Muller, secretary Sandra Hudgens, board member Steve Suwe and his granddaughter, "Retiree-In-Training" Kiley.

70 Chapter 4041 Retirees along with active members of Local 4041and guests enjoyed a night of ” fun at the ol’ ball park” Saturday August 17, 2019 by attending a Reno Aces ball game at Greater Nevada Field in Reno, Nevada.  Everyone in the group also received a collectors edition Reno Aces ball cap.

The Northern Chapters (Sierra Range, Washoe and Retirees Chapter 4041) held their annual summer picnic Sunday August 11, 2019 at Bowers Mansion County Park in Washoe Valley.  Everyone agreed that the turnout was tremendous and was a good time of camaraderie,  food and fun.
